Considering the purchase or lease of additional vehicle(s) for your business... The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (AR&R) provides an extraordinary opportunity to save you substantial money by allowing for the expensing and accelerated depreciation of your new truck(s).The new AR&R Act allows you to fully expense up to $250,000 of your truck purchase(s) during the first year of ownership.2 It also allows first-year depreciation of an additional 50 percent of the adjusted basis value of any new truck(s) placed in service during 2009. (Both policies continue the savings from the 2008 Economic Stimulus Act.) Extension of Increased First-Year Expensing: When you buy a new Ford Truck, the Internal Revenue Service generally considers it “Section 179 property.” The cost of that “property” is an expense that can be deducted in the tax year it is placed into service. Continuing the rules of the 2008Economic Stimulus Act, a qualifying business can expense up to $250,000. That $250,000 maximum expense deduction is reduced if your total Section 179 property purchases exceed $800,000. Consult your tax adviser to ensure that you take full advantage and remain fully compliant with 2009 Internal Revenue Service rules. Extension of First-Year Bonus Depreciation: Last year’s stimulus act also allowed additional (“bonus”) first-year depreciation of 50% of the adjusted basis of qualifying new property placed in service during 2008, including vehicles used in a business. The 2009 Act extends the 50%bonus depreciation to property placed in service during 2009. By extending the higher expensing limits and bonus depreciation to 2009 purchases, the new stimulus act should encourage smaller businesses to invest in vehicles for their businesses. |
